There is two forms of contributing with the SpamHunting project: (i) giving us ideas or developing small software modules and (ii) donating your legitimate and spam messages. We appreciate any kinkd of collaboration. Please, feel free to collaborate with us. We are developing an brainstorming module in order to collaborate with your ideas (please be patient). Moreover, we had developed a specific tool in order to collaborate with your legitimate and spam mailboxes.
Spam messages can be publicly shared without considering any privacy issue. In spam messages "the recipient's personal identity and context are irrelevant because the message is equally applicable to many other potential recipients" (as it is said in SpamHaus spam definition). Therefore, no privacy issues must be kept in mind when this kind of messages. Moreover, a malintentioned use of your legitimate messages can reveal a lot of personal preferences, passwords and everything information exchanged by email messages. Therefore, legitimate messages should be shared carrefully. In order to collaborate with us we had developed a Joomla module that can be used to send us legitimage and spam messages. You can find this module at the bottom of this section. Please read carrefully the instructions about donating your email. |

This section explains with messages can be donated and how to do it. Please, read carrefully it before making any donation. First, before donating your emails to the SpamHunting project, you should keep in mind the potential risks for your identity as consequence of share your messages. Messages donated by users will be used to construct public corpus that can be shared online. Everybody can download these public corpus using an Internet connection. Please check the messages before donating and remove those containing personal/privacy data. Everyone can donate messages even if is not logged in the SpamHunting site. Nevertheless, we will be grafeful for registering at our site and log in before send your messages. This help us to construct message corpus with several kind of user profiles and know users sharing the messages with the best quality for research issues. Please, help us to improve SpamHunting. We promise not to use any of the information of your site registration. Messages must be sent in a ZIP file called spam.zip or legitimate.zip depending if the zip contains spam messages or legitimate ones. Don't include spam and legitimate emails in the same file!!!. If you dont classify your messages, please don't share it with us. Don't share messages classified with SpamAssassin or other tool that modify the Subject of the email headers. The zip file can contain messages codified in the following formats: EML (from MS Outlook Express), Mailbox (from Mozilla Thunderbird) and EMLX (from MAC OS X Mail). Export messages from MS Outlook Express to EML format is very easy. Simply select the messages to export and drag the selected messages to a empty folder in Windows Explorer. All messages selected will be saved in the target folder as eml files. In order to get mailboxes from Mozilla Thunderbird, we recomend to create two email folders called _SPAM_ and _LEGITIMATE_ in your email client. Then you can copy spam and legitimate messages in those folders and you shoud find in your Thunderbird profile two files called with the same name of the created email folders containing all the messages achieved in it. Finally, if you use MAC OS X Mail as Mail User Agent, you will find the messages of any email folder codified in EMLX format in the system directory ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/<mailbox_name>.mbox/Messages. You should keep in mind that ~ represents your home directory. |
